Elementary vs. Sherlock

I've figured out why I prefer Elementary Sherlock to Sherlock Sherlock. Because he's not a dick to people for his own amusement. Now I watched BBC Sherlock first. At the time I liked it. It was flashy, smart and interesting. There were bits I disliked, but I ignored them.

I was 'meh' about elementary at first, but I decided to give it a try. It's smart, fun, and the friendship between the leads is awesome. Watching BBC Sherlock again, I no longer enjoy it, I can no longer ignore the flaws.

BBC Sherlock is nothing but a very intelligent narcissistic bully. He embarrasses and bullies people he doesn't like just because he can. He puts his supposed friend in a traumatising situation just to prove a theory (hounds of the baskervilles).

I was bullied. Other people made my life miserable for their personal amusement. I can't admire or empathise with someone who does that. No matter how many amazing deductions they make.

Hello, Random Cheeses! I hope that all is well with you. I miss your FMA fan fiction!

I agree with you 100% about the two Sherlocks.

At first I liked the BBC version, with it's razzle dazzle. Then, I realized that it was very Dr. Who as Holmes. (Not a bad idea, Mr. Moffat.) It's entertaining. I like it a lot. I'd recommend it.

However, Elementary... It took a few episodes for me to totally love it, but I do. These are real people to me. Jonny Lee Miller's Holmes wants to be a "real boy," though he cannot always admit it. He has always relied on his intellect instead of relationships (Daddy issues!), but he is really warming up to having a "companion." Miller acts. He doesn't just perform.

Lucy Liu's Watson may be even more damaged after losing her career. She's put herself on automatic pilot. She's had some trouble sticking her neck out, again. But she is so intrigued by these investigations. So, we have two interesting, struggling, good people working together and learning from each other.

And the crime plots are more than sufficiently interesting.

Elementary is a real gem. I think that it may be my current favorite TV show.

I didn't mean to ignore the bullying aspect. I was bullied, also. It should not be glorified in any way.
